The Health Care Supreme Court Case: Who Would Be Affected? - NYTimes.com
Sort of a Q&A about what could happen in the upcoming decision. Are you concerned about the pending decision? Why?
Kentucky is one of the states that will not be effected by the ruling of the Supreme Court as the exchange program is state run. So honestly I am not concerned. I don't understand why other states don't do their own exchange program also. With regards to the big picture though, if it does rule against the Obama program then most of the people who utilize this program will be without insurance. That means an increase in cost paid by the taxpayer to assist with this problem. For me that means a decrease in money that goes home with me. We shall have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteI read the comments to the opEd on health care. I though you'd appreciate this:
Delete"FCH New York
The ACA was a bad law to start with. With so many concessions to the healthcare industry (insurers, drug makers, doctors, etc.) and a great effort by the administration to get a consensus from the GOP we ended up with a complicated and expensive hybrid system. At the end of the day this debate is philosophical and societal; is healthcare a right or a privilege in the most advanced country in the world?..."
This is not unlike what the civil war was all about...states rights. The states have a right to either set up an exchange or not. The president threatened to give no subsides to the states that did not set up an exchange. As of now, 37 states have not. Now the president set up a federal exchange, which is unconstitutional.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the article about the baby in a box from Finland. Odd, but they had significant results in decreasing their infant mortality rate with using this. I researched Cincinnati and they have one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation and have made great strides to reduce it. Maybe they should consider the box? It is so interesting to see and hear what goes on in other countries.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I really love low-tech solutions. I knew that Cincinnati has a super-high rate of infant mortality, but thanks for reminding me to post this: http://www.cradlecincinnati.org Cradle Cincinnati is the name of the initiative to reduce infant mortality in Cincinnati. Many folks are working on the problem, including a relatively recent TMC graduate, Tom Boeshart, MPH. So, if any of you are interested in that project, let me know I will put you in touch with him.
DeleteWow what a wonderful idea. I think that some people in our country would not be as open minded about putting your baby in a box. I can remember stories of my great grandmother telling me that she used use a dresser draw for a crib. Must to have worked as well she had 11 children.
DeleteNigeria Female Genital Mutilation Outlawed
ReplyDeleteWhat a tremendous victory for the women of Nigeria. It is shocking to hear the some 130 million women or girls have been mutilated because of a belief that a man came up with. I was not sure why this even occurred to these women and girls. How devalued these women are in this country. I know that is my own opinion but to mutilate them because their sexual parts made them unclean, not pure. It was an ill-mannered attempt at controlling these women's sexual desires. IT made me feel almost ill to read about what was happening to these girls and women. What a victory for them. God bless these human beings!
